Abstract
Education
is the most important sector to be considered in the new millennium. Rather
than expanding the quantity of education we must concentrate in ensuring its
quality. There is need for using innovative strategies to establish a learning
environment which would provides the environment from which the learner is able
to learn on both a cognitive and an emotional plane. Peer to Peer tutoring is a
strategy than can help in developing the skills of communication and social
behavior which are very much relevant in the globalised world to achieve
success. Along with this the formation
of a learning network is suggested in this paper. A network has students with
common goals and a learning network can be formed by those interested in
educating and getting educated. The network can also help in achieving uniform
standards across the participants and also dissemination of knowledge and
interaction across the network. The networks can be formed either in the class
level, institution level, state level, country level or even in the world
level. In the micro level non-official Learning networks can also be
formed. Any available technology can be
used for establishing networks. In this paper Mobile technology which implies
wireless connectivity and availability at any location and at any time is
recommended for the network formation in micro level. Learning networks will
help the learners to become autonomous learners. Establishing a learning
network where it may use any technology if needed to establish the network and
using the peer to peer tutoring principle as well as the capabilities of the
network to feed materials and resources with the help of the authorities will
definitely help India achieve the goals of Education in the new Millennium.
